About Huma Sikandar Fatakia, LPC

I am a holistic psychotherapist, couples counselor, and EMDR therapist specializing in perinatal mental health and relational healing across the reproductive journey. I work with individuals and couples navigating the emotional complexities of pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, fertility experiences, birth trauma, identity shifts, perinatal loss, and the often invisible mental load of caregiving.

Perinatal mental health is deeply personal and layered. For many clients, pregnancy and postpartum do not simply bring joy — they can also bring anxiety, postpartum depression, irritability, or intrusive thoughts. For others, this season activates old wounds, attachment patterns, cultural expectations, relationship strain, or unresolved trauma. My work integrates trauma-informed care, DBT-informed interventions, Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, and somatic approaches to help clients process anxiety, mood changes, birth experiences, grief, and identity transitions with compassion and clarity. DBT skills are particularly helpful during this season, offering practical tools for navigating intense emotions, sleep deprivation, relational conflict, and overwhelm.

I also support partners and couples during the perinatal period, as this transition can significantly shift relationship dynamics. Therapy helps couples improve communication, navigate resentment or disconnection, and strengthen emotional intimacy during a time that can feel challenging and disorienting.

I approach perinatal work through a culturally responsive and relational lens. Working extensively with multicultural and interracial families, I understand how culture, community, family systems, and generational narratives shape the experience of parenthood. I create space for conversations around maternal ambivalence, postpartum rage, fertility grief, NICU experiences, intergenerational expectations, and the pressure to “hold it all together.”

Above all, I strive to offer a steady, grounded, and nonjudgmental space where clients can speak honestly about their fears, exhaustion, identity shifts, and hopes — without shame.

Parenthood changes you. Therapy can help you move through that change with greater self-trust, emotional resilience, and deeper relational connection.
