About Margo Pumar, MD, MA
Whether it is particular life challenges, mental health or medical issues, difficult relationships, or thought or behavior patterns clients = are ready to change, my goal will be to help individuals to feel understood and supported while we create a plan to help you reach their goals. Medications, therapy, coping tools, nutrition, building a support network and self-care are all modalities I use with patients.
As an adult trained psychiatrist I see a wide range of mental health issues and challenges across the lifespan. I specialize in women’s mental health issues, including preconception, pregnancy and postpartum, parenting and other relationship challenges. I also treat, depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, ADHD, eating disorders, and grief and loss.
My approach is rooted in understanding client's unique experiences, strengths, and challenges - I want them to feel seen and understood. Together, we'll craft a personalized and effective treatment plan that considers all aspects of their lives. I am dedicated to providing high-quality care that infuses kindness, warmth and compassion.
Early in my career, I focused on global mental health initiatives in Uganda and Botswana, working to improve access to care for those in need. This journey has taken me around the globe from California, the bustling streets of the Bronx, to London, England, and India; these experiences have given me a broad perspective on the human condition.
As I progressed, I delved into various areas of psychiatry, including behavioral health integration within primary care, obstetrics, and organ transplant surgery. My passion for perinatal mental health and reproductive psychiatry led me to direct the Perinatal Wellness Program at UCSF, where I spearheaded initiatives to provide support for expectant and new mothers (and birthing people).
During the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, I co-chaired the “UCSF Employee Coping and Resilience Program”, highlighting my commitment to supporting mental well-being in all aspects of life.
